When someone you love is hospitalized or staying in a rehabilitation or skilled nursing facility, having a private caregiver at the bedside can provide personalized attention, reassuring companionship, and greater peace of mind.
Families naturally want to spend as much time as possible at a loved one's bedside—offering comfort, noticing changes, asking questions, and ensuring that important needs are communicated. When work, distance, travel, or other responsibilities prevent you from being there, a SHICS private companion or private duty nurse can provide a dependable and compassionate presence.
Bedside care is especially valuable for families who live outside the area or cannot remain at the facility for extended periods. Our caregivers help clients feel safe, supported, and less alone while keeping designated family members informed.
Levels of Bedside Support
Companion and Home Health Aide Support
A compassionate caregiver can provide conversation, reassurance, hand-holding, assistance with simple comfort measures, and help communicating nonclinical needs to facility staff.
Private Duty Nursing Support
A licensed nurse can understand the client's diagnosis and care plan, observe changes in condition, communicate relevant concerns to facility clinicians, advocate for the client, and provide appropriate updates to authorized family members.
How We Can Help
- Provide attentive companionship and emotional reassurance.
- Engage the client in conversation or calming activities.
- Assist with permitted nonclinical comfort measures, such as adjusting pillows or blankets.
- Observe and promptly report changes or concerns to facility staff.
- Help clients communicate their needs and questions.
- Serve as an additional advocate during the stay.
- Provide authorized family members with appropriate updates.
- Offer a reassuring presence during the day, overnight, or at other agreed-upon times.
Private caregivers work in coordination with the facility's clinical team. Medication administration, mobility assistance, toileting, personal care, and other hands-on services are provided only when permitted by the facility, authorized in the care plan, and within the caregiver's professional scope.
